Narrow Bandwidth Gamma Comb from Nonlinear Compton Scattering Using the Polarization Gating Technique

نویسندگان

چکیده

Nonlinear Compton scattering is a promising source of bright gamma-rays. Using readily available intense laser pulses to scatter off the energetic electrons on one hand allows significantly increase total photon yield, but other leads dramatic spectral broadening fundamental emission line as well its harmonics due pulse shape induced ponderomotive effects. In this paper we propose avoid in by using polarization gating technique - well-known method construct with temporally varying polarization. We show that restricting harmonic only region near peak pulse, where linear, it possible generate narrow bandwidth comb gamma region.

Measuring energy dependent polarization in soft gamma-rays using Compton scattering in PoGOLite

Linear polarization in Xand gamma-rays is an important diagnostic of many astrophysical sources, foremost giving information about their geometry, magnetic fields, and radiation mechanisms. However, very few X-ray polarization measurements have been made, and then only mono-energetic detections, whilst several objects are assumed to have energy dependent polarization signatures. In this paper w...

Gamma Ray Energy Measurement using the Multiple Compton Technique

Modern developments in detector and electronics technology now enable a new generation of gamma ray detectors based on recording each and every energy loss associated with an incident gamma ray. The energy of an incident gamma ray is determined by measuring the positions of the first three interactions, and the energy loss of the first two. The direction of the incident gamma ray is restricted ...

Complete description of polarization effects in the nonlinear Compton scattering I. Circularly polarized laser photons

We consider emission of a photon by an electron in the field of a strong laser wave. Polarization effects in this process are important for a number of physical problems. We discuss a probability of this process for circularly polarized laser photons and for arbitrary polarization of all other particles. We obtain the complete set of functions which describe such a probability in a compact cova...

Observation of nonlinear effects in Compton scattering.

Nonlinear Compton scattering has been observed in the collision of a low-emittance 46.6-GeV electron beam with terawatt pulses from a Nd:glass laser at 1054 and 527 nm wavelengths in an experiment at the Final Focus Test Beam at SLAC. Peak laser intensities of 1018 Wycm2 have been achieved, corresponding to a value of 0.6 for the parameter h eErmsymv0c. Results are presented for multiphoton C...

Attosecond Gamma-Ray Pulses via Nonlinear Compton Scattering in the Radiation-Dominated Regime.

The feasibility of the generation of bright ultrashort gamma-ray pulses is demonstrated in the interaction of a relativistic electron bunch with a counterpropagating tightly focused superstrong laser beam in the radiation-dominated regime. The Compton scattering spectra of gamma radiation are investigated using a semiclassical description for the electron dynamics in the laser field and a quant...
